In recent weeks, as we continue to hear howls of outrage at Rev. Wright's comments about America's past and present, more and more Americans are forced to confront the truth about our nation. We were founded on noble principles, however early in our history strayed far from them, and have continued down that path.

Our record of human rights abuses at home and abroad speaks for itself. Our genocidal war against native Americans was but a sad preview of our institutionalized genocidal attitude towards African-Americans, Hispanics, and especially "immigrants", the new watchword of fear preached by our current political leadership.

It is easy to dismiss Rev. Wright as a radical. It is easy to ignore environmental destruction as the complaints of "eco-crazies". It is simple to ignore the stand of many religious leaders as they oppose our racist attitude towards "immigrants". But the facts speak otherwise.

Thank you, Rev. Barber, for revealing the truth about our underlying racism and bigotry as exemplified by the facts about "minority" Americans and the way they live. We like to praise ourselves as the force for democracy and freedom in the world. The reality is that we represent a political and economic
system which institutionalizes bias against "the outsider", the "stranger among us." Is this not in direct defiance of Jesus' preaching?

Americans need to repent before it is too late, and we fall victim to our own greed, bigotry and lust for power.

Pray for Peace!
